 Competition Rules

September - Internal Competition at the AGM.

This is for the Lemur (Prints) and Meerkat (Slides) challenge trophies. This is only open to pictures taken at Marwell in the Preceding 12 months. Members may enter one print and/or one slide in this competition.

  • Digital work is permitted.

May - The Animal-Free Competition

This is for NON-ANIMAL subjects. Only. Members may enter 2 pictures in total (print or slide). Winners decided by judge.

April - Annual Open Competition.

This is for the Zebra (Prints) and Tiger (Slides) Trophies and is open subject. Members may enter up to 2 prints, and/or 2 slides in this competition. Winners decided by judge, and medals awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

  • Digital work is permitted.

November - Endeavours Trophy
This is for members who HAVE NOT WON A PREVIOUS COMPETITION. Members may enter 2 pictures in total (print or slide), open subject but to have been taken within the last 12 months. Entries to be labelled with membership number only and submitted at least 1 month prior to competition for consideration of a judging panel.

December - Hilda Robinson Memorial Plate.

This is open subject . Members may enter 2 pictures in total (i.e 2 prints OR 2 slides OR 1 of each). The plate is awarded by member's vote to the single best overall picture.

  • Digital work IS permitted, but must NOT be heavily manipulated or composite images.

December - Tony Robinson Memorial Cup.

This is open subject. The plate is awarded by the judge to the single best Landscape or Seascape picture chosen from those entered in the Hilda Robinson Memorial Plate Competition .

  • Digital work IS permitted, but must NOT be heavily manipulated or composite images.

January - Challenge Competition

This is against the Worthys and Wonston club. The venue alternates between Marwell and Wonston. Points awarded for pictures, each club submitting 20 prints, chosen beforehand by selection panel. Winner is club with highest total points.

  • Digital work is permitted.

Eligibility to Enter

Only paid up members of the Photographic Group are entitled to participate in our competitions.

Print/Slide Handling

When submitting prints or Slides at one of our competitions, ensure that the secretary checks your entry. Please avoid handling others prints or slides.

Print Preparation

Prints must be mounted on card not exceeding 20"x16".

All pictures should have authors name clearly marked, except Endeavours competition which are to be labelled with membership number only.

Titles are optional in all competitions and are not read out.

The choice of card colour is entirely yours. Black White or Grey are often the best choices.

Each Print MUST have the name of the member on the back of the mount.

Titles are optional, and are not read out during competitions.

Slide Preparation

Slides should be marked in the lower left hand corner of the mount with a large spot. (see picture below)

All slides should have authors name clearly marked. Titles are optional.

Conditions of competition entry

Members entries of prints and slides are accepted for competition only on the condition that the print or slide will be made available for consideration for external competition or exhibition if requested by the committee. Entry into the competition is taken as the members' agreement to this condition, and of those of the individual competitions.
